Wichita, KS -- State Rep. Brenda Landwehr today reiterated her strong support for the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment, a proposed Amendment to the Kansas Constitution which would preserve existing rights that individuals have regarding health care. Landwehr was one of the first state legislators to support the legislation.
"I stand fully behind these efforts just protect the liberty of Kansans to control their own medical care. The mandates proposed under the proposed health care reform currently making its way through Congress would impose mandates on individuals and impose penalties on those who don't comply. As legislators, it is our duty to stand up for Kansas," said Landwehr.
Landwehr, who is Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, said that any health care reform must stay true to the principles of the free market and individual liberty.
"There are a number of things we can do to improve the affordability of and access to health care. I support tort reform, tax credits, and other kinds of free-market based reform that are Constutionally-sound and would actually enhance the freedom of Kansans."
Landwehr recommended supporters of the Health Care Freedom Amendment to visit the website dedicated to the legislation, www.kansashealthcarefreedom.com, where citizens can sign a petition in support of the bill and learn about the various organizations in support of the amendment.
"Passing this legislation will not be easy and will take an enthusastic grassroots effort. I encourage my constituents to sign the petition today."
