Landwehr Statement on Passage of Health Care Freedom Amendment
Last week, the Kansas House passed the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amedment by an overwhelming 91-27 margin. This historic vote was due to grassroots organizations legislators, and private citizens all coming together to protect the liberty of Kansas whioe upholding the principle of state soveriegnty.

Passage would not have been possible without the leadership of Senator Mary Pilcher Cook, who has been spearheading this effort since it began. I also want to thank those who spoke on the floor last week during the debate on the resolution, including Reps. John Rubin, Susan Mosier, Jim Denning and Lance Kinzer.

I also want to acknowledge the role Governor Brownback has played in adding his weight behind the legislation. Together with the efforts of Attorney General Schmidt and our U.S. Senators and Congressmen, we are working hard to protect Kansans from unconstitutional mandates that limit their freedom and restricts the right of Kansas to choose a health care path that is right for its citizens.

I have been proud to have helped lead this effort, which now turns to the Senate, where our efforts must intensify. With six new Senators and 27 votes required for passage, every effort must be made to convince those on the fence to vote for this legislation.

Thank You!
Tuesday's election results brought historic wins for the Republican Party both nationwide and here in Kansas. Here in District 91, I am honored to have been re-elected by my constituents with 64% of the vote. I want to thank the residents of my district for their trust in me as well as the volunteers who were so helpful in this campaign.

Now the real work begins. I am looking forward to working with incoming Governor Brownback and my legislative colleagues as we seek to find solutions to the serious challenges facing Kansas. Now, more than ever, we have the opportunity to return our great state to the principles of limited government, economic freedom, individual liberty, and the rule of law, and restore fiscal responsiblity and prudence to our state budget process.

Kansas is a wonderful place we are blessed to call home. It is my utmost goal to ensure that it remains as such for decades to come.

Sincerely,
Brenda Landwehr

Senator Roberts Addresses Health Care Law -- Asks for Waivers
In a recent letter printed in the October 17th Wichita Eagle, Senator Pat Roberts addressed the health care reform law:

Extend waivers
Americans continue to disapprove of the new health care reform law. We have now seen reports that U.S. businesses, including McDonald’s, cannot afford to comply with the new mandates in the law, warning that they will result in increased costs or dropped coverage for their workers.

The reality of this new law is so negative that the Obama administration has resorted to handing out waivers to ease the blow at this crucial time during an election year. I am disappointed that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has not extended these waivers to all that are affected.

The bottom line is that these waivers are an admission by the administration that the new law isn’t working. The waivers are an attempt to hide that fact from voters in order to minimize the political fallout just before the midterm elections.

Sen. PAT ROBERTS Washington, D.C.

Landwehr Leads on Health Care Freedom
Wichita, KS -- State Rep. Brenda Landwehr today reiterated her strong support for the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment, a proposed Amendment to the Kansas Constitution which would preserve existing rights that individuals have regarding health care. Landwehr was one of the first state legislators to support the legislation.

"I stand fully behind these efforts just protect the liberty of Kansans to control their own medical care. The mandates proposed under the proposed health care reform currently making its way through Congress would impose mandates on individuals and impose penalties on those who don't comply. As legislators, it is our duty to stand up for Kansas," said Landwehr.

Landwehr, who is Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, said that any health care reform must stay true to the principles of the free market and individual liberty.

"There are a number of things we can do to improve the affordability of and access to health care. I support tort reform, tax credits, and other kinds of free-market based reform that are Constutionally-sound and would actually enhance the freedom of Kansans."

Landwehr recommended supporters of the Health Care Freedom Amendment to visit the website dedicated to the legislation, www.kansashealthcarefreedom.com, where citizens can sign a petition in support of the bill and learn about the various organizations in support of the amendment.

"Passing this legislation will not be easy and will take an enthusastic grassroots effort. I encourage my constituents to sign the petition today."

Landwehr Appointed Chair of Health and Human Services Committee
Rep. Brenda Landwehr has been appointed by Speaker Mike O'Neal as the Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. In addition, she will be serving as a member of the Government Efficiency and Fiscal Oversight Committee.

Welcome to my Online Office!
Thanks for your vote in ’08! It has been my pleasure to serve the 91st district over the years, and I look forward to continuing the fight to leave Kansas a better state for generations to come.

Sincerely,
Rep. Brenda Landwehr
